I have installed all of the current updates for Win7 and have now installed Firefox and the . NET framework add on is not appearing in my list anyway, so I personally am not experiencing the issue. I appreciate people's security concerns when it comes to Windows. I have them too, but I also pride myself on being one of those people that plays it smart, taking as many precautions as necessary. I'm also not saying MS is perfect by any stretch. I'm just glad to see they are finally starting to listen to their customers and implement some positive changes to the experience.
