Suze, Thank you for the blog mention. I could add so much through my travels recently. I will I had a brain decoder that could get everything out. However, two things that have been challenging for me are:

1. Scaling - As many know I am the community manager for Best Buy Remix. I tell you, one mention in a mashable article and you see what it's like to try and scale. However, this article would have never come about without the human side of community. @JBruin wrote the article. I treat her like any other person in my community and this is what they want. Don't approach with an agenda, and be human.

2. Multiple personality(s) - As Remix community manager I have a full time job facilitating, enabling, and managing community. However, I think it is vitally important for me to maintain my personal profile to the utmost. I think as the web grows and more people work in the "community building" field they will find ways to manage both or merge into one. I choose to manage both. My community reputation and social capital got me the job, I'd be an idiot to drop off on my amazing personal community.

Thanks for the post. :) Sending love up North as always!

I always say that the best communities are the ones that run themselves - build numerous leaders, are full of ideas and offer questions and answers themselves.

As you rightly say, leaders start the process, but the real community comes afterward. That's where the magic truly happens.

Hey Susan,

Another spot-on post! Yes, community is paramount and if you are a member that means it will always need you.

But you're right - eventually we can share our knowledge and ideas then allow others in the community to contribute as well. That fact has been true for as long as humans have drawn breath.

Many minds make light work.
