As a Mcluhan fan too, I would like to hear what he would have said about the "social medium". In his famous, "the medium is the message", as in the lightbulb quote you use, he argued that it was the characteristics of medium itself that changed society more so than the messages it carried (not that the message is unimportant) and I think that is so true with the social web. By using twitter in combination with video, we were trying provide more than information and conversation during a single event, but also to facilitate making new connections between people to enable further conversation after the event.
